At the request of the Governor of Michigan, through Michigan State University, a study was conducted to determine if several cultural institutions could be brought together under one roof. The result was a plan for The Michigan Center for Innovation and Reinvention which would have brought together a museum focused on science, technology, history and world cultures; a high school; a large format theater/digital theater; and a business incubator.
